From Research Questions to Local Realities

On the afternoon of 17 August 2026, members of the Systematic Urban Management (SUM) Lab met with District Councillor CHAN Kai-wai, MH and District Councillor CHEUNG Mei-hung, Chris. The visit created an opportunity to hear directly from district representatives and to develop a more grounded understanding of the conditions, constraints, and priorities that shape everyday urban life.

Prof. Qian-Cheng Wang joined the visit, while Dr. Ma and Dr. Liu delivered a brief presentation. The meetings continued with lively and constructive discussions, allowing the team to learn from the councillors' practical experience and community-level observations.

Discussion Themes

Renewable Energy

Solar energy and photovoltaic (PV) applications

Community Upgrades

Energy-efficient facilities and neighbourhood improvements

Urban Resilience

Environmental protection and stronger community infrastructure

Age-Friendly Communities

Urban ageing and facilities that better support older residents

By engaging at the district level, the team gained a clearer view of how broad sustainability goals intersect with real neighbourhood conditions. The councillors' perspectives offered valuable context for thinking about solutions that are locally informed, practical, and attentive to residents' needs.
